Barbara O'Connor Obituary

Barbara J. (McGrath) O'Connor WINTHROP, Mass., FLORIDA & MAINE -- Barbara J. (McGrath) O'Connor of Winthrop, Mass., Florida and Maine, passed away on June 20, 2008. She is the beloved wife of the late James J. O'Connor; devoted mother of John J. and Jason J. O'Connor of Winthrop, Mass., Karen J. Tufts and her husband Charles of Maine, Kathleen H. Vraux and her husband Richard of Maine, and James J. O'Connor Jr. and his wife Ellen of Billerica, Mass.; sister of the late Thomas McGrath of Charlestown, Mass.; cherished grandmother of James J. Tufts, Wesley, Vanessa C. and Justin J. Vraux, and Siobhan, James and Francis O'Connor; and dear friend and loving companion of Richard Malatesta of Revere, Mass. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop, Mass., on Tuesday, June 24, at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Raised in Charlestown, Mass., she was a graduate of Charlestown High School, Class of 1953, and later moved to Winthrop, Mass., where she resided for over 50 years. She was a graduate of Bunker Hill Community College and past member of the Winthrop Emblem Club and Drill Team. Barbara was employed as a Director/Bureau Chief for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue Records Management until her retirement.

I also left a message at the funeral home guest book but wanted to be doubly sure you reeived one at least. I didnt hear of your moms death until I read the Transcript and felt terrible that I couldnt have attended the services for her. All the Gallaghers wouldve ! Nonetheless please know we send our deepest sympathies to you all. I remeber when my dad died , the twins came and offered their thoughts and prayers to us! Your mom raised some real nice kids!
