SOUTHPORT, N.C. -- Charles E. Kierstead, 86, died on Aug. 17, 2013, at Carillon Assisted Living in Southport, N.C.
Charles was born on April 2, 1927, in Eastport, the son of Walter and Ida (Dodge) Kierstead. He grew up in Eastport and retired from the United States Air Force after serving 20 years in 1964. He then resided in Brunswick and worked for the town until he retired.
Charles and his wife Inez moved to North Carolina in 2001, living for a brief time in Huntersville, N.C., and Southport, N.C. His final five years were spent at Carillon Assisted Living in Southport, N.C.
He was predeceased in death by his parents; brothers, Alfred, Phillip and Douglas and sisters, Winneford, Beatrice and Barbara. Mr. Kierstead is survived by his wife Inez Kierstead of Southport; daughters, Rebecca Hager and husband Irvin Hager of Cornelius, N.C. and Southport, N.C., and Jan Hollrith of Albuquerque, N.M.; four grandsons, Walter (Salty) Brine III of Manhattan, N.Y., Charles Brine of Cornelius, N.C., LT Adam Hollrith and his wife Christina of Monterey, Calif., and Nathan Hollrith of Savannah, Ga.; great-grandson Archer Hollrith of Monterey, Calif.; brothers, David and John and sister, Geraldine.
Charles was a devoted husband, loving and caring father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
Though he spent his final years in North Carolina his true love was Maine.
