GORHAM - Earl M. Berry Sr. 85, passed away on May 2, 2018. The son of Charles and Gertrude (Knight) Berry, he and his twin sister Erlene were born in Windham on April 9, 1933. He attended Windham schools through the eighth grade.
At a young age he helped support his parents and five siblings. He later earned his GED while in the military. He served in the United States Army in Germany during the Korean War. After he was discharged from the Army, he married Beverly Ann Shaw and the two settled in Gorham to raise their daughter and two sons.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a member of the Gorham/Windham Rod and Gun Club. Earl was known for his oversized garden which produced vegetables for the whole community. He was beloved and will be missed by his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Beverly Berry in 2011; sisters Dorothy Nealy, Francis (Pete) Smith Erlene Wiemert, and brother Arthur Berry.
He is survived by his daughter Tammy McIlwain of Portland, his sons Dan Berry and his wife Marty of Gorham, and Earl Berry Jr. and his wife Diane of Gorham; his grandchildren Joel and his fiancée Haylee, Justin and his companion Brianna, and children Grayson, Everly and Chloe, Christopher, Nicholas and his fiancée Elizabeth, Kane and his children Kayley, Kyle, Isabelle, and Isaiah, and Angela Mason-Bogue and her husband Michael, and their children Caroline and Crosby. He is also survived by his sister Anita and husband Phil Guimond of Gorham.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 4-5:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 5:30 p.m. Services will be held at the Windham Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee, 434 River Rd. with Rev. Jeffrey McIlwain officiating. Interment with military honors will take place at a later date at Hillside Cemetery in Gorham. The Berry family would like to thank the staff and residents at "The Inn at Village Square", in addition to the staff at "Compassus Hospice & Palliative Care".
