Eugene Sullivan Obituary

Eugene F. Sullivan, 79 SACO -- Eugene F. 'Sully' Sullivan, 79, of Wildwood Drive, Saco, passed late Tuesday evening at the Springbrook Nursing Center in Westbrook after a long illness with his loving family by his side. Sully was born in Biddeford on Sept. 25, 1929, the son of John and Catherine Kerwin Sullivan. He was brought up in the Bradbury Street neighborhood of Biddeford and graduated from Biddeford High School in 1947 and later served in the U.S. Army. On Sept. 5, 1960, he married the former Constance Fecteau at Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco. After serving his country, Sully worked for Biddeford Hardware for over 42 years. During this time he also owned and operated Jack's Spa, a neighborhood pub in Biddeford. After retirement he worked part-time for Dennett, Craig & Pate in Saco as caretaker of the property. He will be remembered for the meticulous care of his lawns, his love of New England sports and his Irish heritage. One of Sully's greatest joys was his involvement in athletics, including coaching his sons and being a fervent observer at his grandson's games. Most of all he will be remembered for his dedication to his family. Until recently, Sully was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He proudly participated in the yearly raising of the Irish flag over Biddeford City Hall on St. Patrick's Day. St. Mary's Parish in Biddeford held an annual St. Patrick's Day gathering where Sully was a frequent soloist at the celebration. He was a past member of St. Mary's Church, Good Shepherd Parish in Biddeford and a current member of Most Holy Trinity in Saco. He was a past lector at Most Holy Trinity Church. Survivors include his wife Constance Fecteau Sullivan; two sons, Shaun Sullivan and his wife Lisa of Saco and David Sullivan and his partner Andrew Newman of Falmouth; and two grandsons, Zachary and Keegan Sullivan. He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Louise Boucher and Elaine Scherr and one brother, John. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Springbrook Nursing Center for their compassionate care for Sully, and generous support of his family during his residence there. Visiting hours will be held Friday, March 13 from 6 until 8 p.m. at Dennett-Craig and Pate Funeral Home in Saco. Funeral services will be held at Most Holy Trinity Church on Main Street in Saco, Saturday, March 14 at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be held March 17 at 10 a.m. at the Laurel Hill Cemetery.
