George Lemieux Obituary

George Russell "Russ" Lemieux, 87
WESTBROOK - George Russell "Russ" Lemieux was taken up to heaven in the hands of the Lord on July 9, 2018. Russ was born on July 28, 1930, in Gilman, Vt., son of Andeole George and Ida Emma (Baldic) Lemieux.
Russ graduated from Lancaster (N.H.) High School where he studied automotive mechanics. After graduation, he helped manage the family dairy farm. In 1950, he married Stella F. McGee and they purchased their own dairy farm in Littleton, N.H. They moved to Westbrook in 1954 and Russ became a Main Street businessman when he opened an ESSO Service Station. Always based on Main Street, Russ owned and operated several Automotive and Gas Service Stations. In 1970, he opened The Muffler Shop, from where he retired in 1992. Even in retirement, automotive mechanics was in his blood, he enjoyed restoring vintage vehicles including a special Farmall "A" tractor.
After retiring, Russ took up golf and enjoyed both the competition and camaraderie of good friends. He made the seasonal trek to his home in Florida to be able to play all year round. He also turned his hand to woodworking and became an accomplished artisan; making both small items, like cutting boards, to significant and intricate pieces of furniture. These activities were good additions to his other hobbies; fly fishing, playing horseshoes, boating and attending or watching hockey games.
Russ was quietly generous and always ready to help those in need. Family was very important to Russ and he loved having gatherings at home and at camp, especially with good food to enjoy. He was a strong, honest man and inspired his family and those who worked for him to have solid values and integrity.
Russ was a tease and enjoyed good banter. He could take a kidding as well as dish it out. He loved playing cribbage and could count his opponent's hand before they could. Russ found great pleasure in the daily and weekly card games with the "regulars".
Russ was predeceased by his wife, Stella; his mother and father; his brother Paul Lemieux of Connecticut and sister, Marie Lemieux McLaughlin of New Hampshire. Surviving Russell are his three daughters, Anne M. Jarvis and her husband Thomas of Lewiston, Joan F. Ashley and her husband Robert, residing with Russ in Westbrook and Susan M. Nappi and her husband Jay of Windham; two grandchildren, Kristen L Gatlin and her husband Robert of Washington, D.C. and Nicholas A. Barbera and his wife Danielle of Standish; one great- grandson, Nico Alexander Barbera of Standish, and a close friend and companion Dawn Libby of Westbrook.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 15, Westbrook Chapel of Dolby, Blais & Segee Funeral Home, 35 Church St, Westbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday July 16 at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 35 Brown St, Westbrook. Interment will follow at St Hyacinth Cemetery. Russell, A wonderful neighbor to be introduced to when we moved in... Always a smile on that face of his and knew he enjoyed keeping busy.. Ie: mowing his lawn! We could never keep up with him!! We will miss his waves goodbye, unmatchable lawn mowing /snowplowing & just seeing him out & about! His presence will be missed! So glad we were given the opportunity to meet him..
R.I.P., Russell.

I used The Muffler Shop 30+ years ago, and Mr. Le Mieux always took good care of me. I was painting houses back then, and got to do some work for him. Again, a pleasure. I could tell then and now-that he was a dedicated fixture in the community and to his Family.RIP Sir!

Growing up in Westbrook "Russ" was the go to man when us kids had vehicle problems. He taught me how to adjust the points on my 61 Impala, I believe that was in 69. A wonderful caring individual. The world was a much brighter place with Russ. God bless.
