Hugh T. Barker Jr.

Hugh T. Barker Jr., 90 PEAKS ISLAND -- Hugh T. Barker Jr., 90, of Peaks Island and Amherst, N.H., passed away on Friday, July 25, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Winchester, Mass., on Oct. 28, 1917, the son of Hugh T. Sr. and Flora M. Harper Barker. He graduated from Medford Mass High School and furthered his education at Tufts University and Wentworth Technical Institute. He was employed by New England Telephone Co. for 42 years, retiring as a network manager in 1979. During WWII he was captain of the 1077th Signal Company in England and Mainland Europe and was later recalled for the Korean Conflict. He began his long love of Peaks Island as a child and except for the war years has spent every summer there. Hugh was predeceased by a brother, Bruce A. Barker. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Marcia F. Barker; his two children, Hugh T. III, Janet F. Clements and her husband John; two grandchildren and two great- grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 8, at St. Christopher's Church 15 Central Ave., Peak's Island. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, at Amherst Congregational Church, Amherst, N.H.
