James Killelea Obituary

James Edward
Killelea, 94
SCARBOROUGH -- James Edward Killelea, 94, of Scarborough, died on Oct. 12, 2011 at his home. He was born on Feb. 21, 1917, in Leominster, Mass., the son of James and Annie (Wood) Killelea.
He attended school in Leominster and Lancaster, Mass., where he lived until he was 23. He was very much a self-educated man.
As a young man, he joined the National Guard in Clinton, Mass., and was activated into the U.S. Army when World War II was declared. He served from Normandy to Tangermunde, 40 miles from Berlin, where his 5th Armored Division was halted by command from SHAEF.
Following the war, he moved to Maine and married Elaine L. Frederick in 1945. He was employed by Loring, Short and Harmon as a buyer and department manager for 30 years. Following retirement James and Elaine enjoyed travelling and spent many winters in Ft. Meyers, Fla.
He is survived by his wife Elaine; his daughter Jill and her husband Steven Edmonson, all of Scarborough; and a grandson, Patrick S. Edmonson and his partner Sara Berry of Windham.
James was a member of the 5th Armored Division Association, the American Legion and a life member of O.L.L.I. A long time elder of Redemeer Lutheran Church in Cape Elizabeth, he was most recently a member of First Lutheran Church in Portland.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to James Richards and the staff at Scarborough Health Care and VNA Home Health and Hospice, especially Amy, Robin and Pam who all treated James with kindness and dignity.
A funeral Mass will be held at First Lutheran Church, 132 Auburn St., Portland, on Monday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. Interment will be private. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements are by Independent Death Care of Maine. To offer words of condolence and to share memories with the family, please go to the obituary page at www.independentdeathcare.com.
