Joan Janeski Obituary

Joan S. Janeski, 85
PORTLAND -- Joan S. Janeski, 85, died on Nov. 22, 2010, as a result of complications from a stroke.
She was born in Lancaster, Pa., on Feb. 13, 1925, to Kenelm Shirk Sr. and Beatrice (Wertz). After moving to Maine she became interested in the tax assessing field becoming a Certified Maine Assessor. She was very active in the Retired Senior Volunteer Program, Retired Executive Volunteers, a charter member of the Maine Chapter of the International Assessing Officers, held offices in both the Maine Association of Assessors and the Central Maine Association of Assessors, and was involved with Republican politics.
She is survived by her sons, Patrick Bailey of Haverhill, Mass., Michael Bailey of Gray, a daughter, Beverly Evans of Goliad, Texas; 11 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several close friends including Kay, Janice, Kathie and Suzanne. She was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Janeski and William Updike.
