Joseph Gaudreau Obituary

Leo 'Paul' Gaudreau, 84 HAVERHILL, Mass. -- Joseph Leo 'Paul' Roland Gaudreau, 84, of Haverhill, Mass., formerly Deer Hill and Marrett Street, Westbrook, passed away on April 18, 2009. A life long resident of Westbrook, he was born on Oct. 18, 1924, in Westbrook, the son of Louis and Mary Jeanne Gaudreau. He graduated from Westbrook High School, attended Westbrook College, and joined the Army on June 28, 1943, as a Range Section Operator. He was a corporal with the Battery Aircraft BN, serving in World War II in the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign in Normandy, France, Rhineland, and Central Europe; decorated and honorably discharged Jan. 3, 1946. He was employed by S.D. Warren Paper Company in Westbrook from 1943 until his retirement in 1986. In the 1950s, he and his wife Estelle also owned and operated a local breakfast and lunch restaurant adjacent to S.D. Warren Paper mill. He served as a tour guide for the S.D. Warren Paper, and served on a number of PTA boards. He was a member of the Stephen W. Manchester Post #62 in Westbrook. Paul's joy and favorite pastime was gardening. Paul was a 'gifted' gardener and landscaper, always happy to share his many years of experience with anyone who needed the help. He was a wonderful resource to those seeking to rehabilitate a home, or tackle a renovation project. He was survived by his wife Estelle M. Gaudreau, of 59 years, whom he has kept a special vigil over without missing a single day until his long term illness took it's toll. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. (Robert) Jacqueline Douglas, and Mrs. (Andy) Lucille Caron both of Westbrook; a son, Gary P. Gaudreau and a daughter, Carolyn A. Jalbert of Haverhill, Mass.; three grandsons, Christian M. and wife Angella Jalbert of Bucksport, Sgt. Kurt A. Jalbert of Ft. Bragg Fayetteville, N.C., and Gregory R. Jalbert of South Portland; and four great-grandchildren, Nataylia Kaitlyn Jalbert, Joseph Leo Jalbert, Jacob Michael Jalbert, and Nathan Paul Jalbert.
