SOUTH PORTLAND -- June Therese Feeney, 82, formerly of Portland and South Portland, and most recently of Bristol, Conn., died on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, in Bristol, Conn.
June was born in Portland on June 14, 1931, the daughter of James Edward and Florence Agnes Kerwin O'Leary. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Portland High School.
She married Francis Feeney Sept. 29, 1956, at St. Dominic Church.
June was employed for many years with the New England Telephone Company, retiring in 1992 with relocation to South Portland.
She was a former communicant of Holy Cross Church of South Portland. June was the caretaker of her family. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed reading cookbooks. June liked dinner out with friends, word puzzles and going to the movies. She cherished her role as 'Nana,' sister and aunt throughout her life but mostly was described as a good kind woman. Community activities included membership in the Telephone Pioneers, Red Hat Society, and Bristol Senior Center.
She was predeceased by her husband Francis on April 21, 1980; also by her brothers, Edward and Robert O'Leary and sisters, Rita Perron and Florence O'Leary. Survivors include her three daughters and their families: Mary Krause and husband Richard of Harvard, Mass., Anne Van Haaren and Michael Jenkinson of Uxbridge, Mass., Claire Bart and husband Joseph of Bristol, Conn.; her five grandchildren, Alexander VanHaaren, Sarah VanHaaren, Erika Krause, Owen Krause, and Olivia Bart; two sisters, Lorraine Nevers and Alice Guimont; and many nieces and nephews with whom she remained in close contact.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. Prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. on Monday at the South Portland Chapel, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Cross Church. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. A Mass of remembrance will be scheduled at St. Stanislaus Church in Bristol, Conn., at future date to be determined.
