Mary Hikade Obituary

Mary Ellen Hikade, 97

CAPE PORPOISE - Mary Ellen Hikade of Cape Porpoise died on April 6, 2018. She left life as she lived it, with grace and dignity and with the enduring love of her family.

She was born in Arlington, Mass., May 19, 1920, and raised in Dumont, N.J., by her parents, Samuel and Winifred Armstrong, formerly of Cape Porpoise, Maine. She was predeceased by her husband Otto, brother William and sister Priscilla.

Mary Ellen left this world with the love of her children, Douglas and his wife, Louise, (Mt. Laurel, N.J.); John and his wife, Beth, (Blue Hill, Maine); Wynn and her husband, Ron, (Kennebunkport, Maine); Tim and his wife, Cindy, (Scarborough, Maine); Chris and his wife, Laura, (Ft. Myers, Fla.); and Bill and his wife, Sharon, (Vermilion, Ohio). She is also survived by several nieces and nephews; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Ellen volunteered for 26-plus years at the Kennebunk Animal Welfare Society, devoting her retirement years to the care and well being of countless abandoned and homeless animals, all who benefited from her endless caring and kindness. Mary Ellen would be the first to say that she received way more from them than they did from her. She and Otto shared their Cape Porpoise home with more than one of those animals fortunate to cross her path.

Our family would like to thank the staff at Seal Rock Health Care in Saco and Beacon Hospice for the wonderful care and attention they gave Mary Ellen during her stay with them. We are forever grateful for their love and support to all of us during her journey.
