Nancy Louise Milligan
PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- Nancy Louise Milligan, of Port Richey, Fla., died suddenly on May 20, 2011, in Austin, Texas, while visiting her beloved family.
Nancy was born in New Orleans, La., on Nov. 25, 1943, to Jonathan David and Elizabeth Perkins Milligan while they were stationed in Texas. Nancy spent most of her life in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport. She graduated with honors from Kennebunk High School, attended Milligan College in Tennessee and received her associate's degree from Nasson College in Springvale.
Nancy was a student of many interests throughout her life. She enjoyed a wide range of handcrafting, antique collecting, reading, and gardening to name a few. She especially enjoyed writing poetry and prose with which she gifted friends and family over the years.
In the 1970s Nancy and her then husband owned and operated the Maine Stay Inn in Kennebunkport. She also worked in the family hotel business at the Sea Spray Motor Inn at Kennebunk Beach. Nancy moved on to the real estate industry which was a natural step for her. She loved the profession and was a successful broker both in Maine and in the Tampa, Fla. area where she resided and worked for the last 14 years.
Nancy met with many challenges throughout her life and she became a power of example for many of us. Her resilience in the face of hardship was indeed admirable as she succeeded where many would have failed. Nancy was strong and brave and will be remembered for her laughing sense of humor, her intelligence, her persistence and determination, her creative thinking, her love of her family and she will be deeply missed by those close to her.
Without question, Nancy's greatest happiness in life were her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Caroline Ruth Taylor Armstrong of Littleton, Mass., son, Jonathan James Taylor and daughter- in-law Janie Taylor of Austin, Texas; and grandchildren Cole Armstrong and Camden Taylor. Nancy is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Milligan of Cape Porpoise; sisters Judy (John) Andrews of Arundel, Debbie (Jim) Andrews of Arundel; foster brother Marlon Penn of Sanford; special aunts and uncles Mary Jean Tarr of Tampa, Fla., Priscilla Kenney of Alfred, Henry and Sue Perkins of Cape Porpoise, Norman Perkins of Palm Springs, Calif.; as well as other much loved nieces, nephews; aunts, uncles; cousins and friends. Nancy was predeceased by her father, Jonathan D. Milligan.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 31, at 11 a.m., at Hope Cemetery in Kennebunk. Arrangements are in care of Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. www.bibberfuneral.com
