Norman W. Palmer

Norman W. Palmer, 87 BUXTON -- Norman W. Palmer, 87, of River Road, passed away on March 1, 2009, at Southern Maine Medical Center. He was born in Hollis, on Jan. 9, 1922, the son of Millard and Geneva (Varney) Palmer. He attended schools in Hollis and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy. Throughout his life, Norman was a self-employed woodsman and worked throughout southern Maine. He was a member of the Hollis Lions Club and is a Past President and Melvin Jones Award recipient, and a Past Commander of the American Legion - Hutchinson/Bolter Post. He enjoyed making wreaths, doing crossword puzzles, haying, gardening, and tend to his herd of cows. Mr. Palmer is predeceased by his beloved wife, Theresa (Saulnier) Palmer; daughter, Margaret 'Peggy' Palmer; and siblings, Clinton 'Pete' Palmer, Ronald Palmer, Harley Palmer, Louise Haskell and Dorothy Thompson. Norman is survived by his son, Joseph Palmer and his wife Karen of Hollis, daughter, Joyce Peredna and her husband Richard of Waltham, Mass.; son-in-law- Reggie Parker of Buxton; sister, Lena Meservey of Buxton; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be on Thursday afternoon from 2-4 p.m. at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, located on the corners of Rts. 202 and 4A (13 Portland Rd.) in Buxton (Bar Mills). A funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 4 p.m. Afterward, everyone is invited to a reception at the Hollis Lions Club, Rt. 35, Hollis Center.
