Patricia Swennes Obituary

Patricia Ann Swennes, 78
CAPE PORPOISE - Patricia Ann Swennes was born to James
Conrad and Evelyn
Krahling on July 21, 1940, in Washington D.C. She is survived by her brothers Eddie and Skippy and predeceased by her older brother, James and older sister, Mary.
She attended Anacostia High School and three years at be George Washington University before she married Jon Swennes in June of 1961 and became a mother to Jon, Robin, and Gordon.
A mother with a capital 'M', she baked from scratch and was there everyday when her kids got home from school. She made sure her kids didn't watch too much TV and what they did watch were shows she considered 'wholesome' like The Brady Bunch and Wild Kingdom. She promoted educational moments and strived to raise children with strong moral and family values.
She had a nose like a bloodhound and could smell burning toast in the kitchen from up in the attic or unapproved new clothes hidden by her daughter in the back of the closet.
During the second half of her life - spent in Maine - she enjoyed
traveling to other parts of the world, meeting people, trying new restaurants and taking Sunday jaunts to favorite Farmer's Markets with her husband. She loved what she would call 'real food' from places like Hot Suppa and Scratch Baking Company - nothing 'fake' or 'processed' for her.
She was a woman of faith who enjoyed trying out different churches and temples either for their impressive choirs, a particularly interesting minister, or a welcoming congregation. Thrifty to the core, she brought new meaning to the words 'Recycle' and 'Reuse'. She cared about the environment and revered the beauty of nature. Although she donated much of her time and money to charitable causes, her greatest passion was her job of 'Mother' and anyone who knew her would say, "Job well done".
She lost her battle with pancreatic cancer on July 24 but desired only an understated, small family gathering with no public memorial service. She and her family very much appreciated all the love and support they received during her final days here on Earth. If those who knew her are so moved, she asked that they donate their time or money to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Godspeed to you mom; we know you'll give God a run for his money.

Robin,
I'm sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I know how difficult it can be for family caregivers when going through such an ordeal with a loved one. We recently lost our Mom to Alzheimer's. My thoughts and prayers to you and your family and take comfort that your Mom is no longer in pain.

It was an honor to have known such a beautiful woman with a heart of gold and infectious smile. She was also a fabulous grandmother to my nephews, Eric and Scott and to Gordan's girls as well. May she rest in peace. Heaven gained a new angel.
