Philip E. Shaw, Jr, 90
PORTLAND - Philip E. Shaw, Jr. died on August 9, 2016. He was born in Portland, son of Philip E. and Laura (Matheson) Shaw on May 17, 1926. Philip graduated from Portland High School and entered the US Navy as a radio operator.
He was a longtime resident of Scarborough (47 years) before moving to Freeport.
Philip is the past owner of O. J. Porter Co, a vending business of pinball machines and jukeboxes and was the founder of Soap Bubble Laundromat, a family-run business in the West End of Portland. He had a 58 year "hobby" as a ham radio operator and enjoyed attending ham radio events and was a member of ARRL, PAWA and active in "hamfests". Philip attended several Volksmarch events with his wife and loved traveling and riding trains.
Philip was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Patricia "Patsy" A. Shaw. He is survived by his "favorite" daughter, Jean A. Marandola and her husband Jim (who was like a son to him); two grandchildren Aimee and Melissa; and nine great-grandchildren Sarah, Meghan, Jacob, Joshua, Videlia, Rosemary, James, George and Granite.
The family would like to thank Dr. Joel Cutler, his cardiologist (who helped him see 90) and the wonderful friends and staff at the Osher Inn at Cedars.
Visiting hours will be Saturday, August 13, 10:00 - 12:00 p.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 p.m. at
