R. Stephen Steve Eastman Jr., 58
     KEARSARGE, N.H. -- R. Stephen Steve Eastman Jr., 58, of Kearsarge, N.H. died April 25, 2008, after a
    lengthy illness.
     Eastman leaves his wife, Sarah (Whitcomb) Eastman, a teacher; daughter, Emily, 22, a senior at University of New Hampshire, and son, Grant, 20, a sophomore at Northeastern University.
     A 1971 graduate of Plymouth State College, Eastman recently served on the President's Council whose Leadership and Service Award honors Eastman. He was editor of the Sugarloaf (Maine) Irregular in 1975. Eastman co-founded The Mountain Ear newspaper with Jane (Golden) Reilly in 1976. He served as its publisher and editor until he sold it to Salmon Press in 2005. He co-founded the World Mud Bowl Mud Football Championships (1976) and founded the Tournament of Mud Parade (1981).
     A Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Mountains Catholic Church in North Conway, N.H., May 2, at 11 a.m.
