SOUTH PORTLAND -- Stella M. Pike, 97, formerly of Cash Street, died on Monday, Jan. 10, 2011, in Scarborough.
Stella was born in Portland on April 23, 1913, the daughter of Adam and Helena Lukasziewicz Dubowick. She attended local schools and was a 1931 graduate of South Portland High School. Stella apprenticed as a hairdresser and later operated a salon in Portland for many years. Stella was blessed with remarkable health and she continued to work until age 88.
She was a longtime communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church. Stella was an active member of the South Portland Senior Citizens. She continued to attend exercise classes until age 93. Family activities and time spent with friends were extremely important to her. She enjoyed travel and especially trips to California, Arizona, Canada and many areas of New England. Stella always enjoyed a good meal at her favorite restaurant the Village Cafe and also enjoyed playing beano.
Stella was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Litwinovich, Sophie Lisica and Anna Tarazewich, and a brother, James J. Dubowick. Survivors include several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation with prayers on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Conroy-Tully South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A 12 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. John the Evangelist Church, Main Street, South Portland. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Church, Biddeford.
