Stephen Curran Obituary

Stephen Joseph Curran, 80
SCARBOROUGH - Stephen Joseph Curran, 80, of Scarborough, died peacefully on June 21, 2018, at the Gorham House.
He was born in Portland on July 10, 1937, the son of Stephen and Agnes (Conley) Curran. He graduated from Cheverus High School and served our Country in the United States Air Force for 23 years.
He married the love of his life, Grace Josephine (Sullivan), in October, 1970, at Holy Cross Church. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Steve and Grace faithfully and lovingly helped the poor - serving in the Saint Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen and the South Portland Food Pantry. He enjoyed fishing, sports, camping, traveling with Grace, and making pilgrimages to holy places of prayer.
Stephen J. Curran was a communicant of Saint Maximilian Kolbe Church for most of his life. He is remembered as a very quiet and humble man who inspired faithfulness, devotion, and merciful love to those in need - not only by showing constant compassion to the poor, but also by caring for his beloved wife, Grace, so devotedly. He was a great family man, a true man of God, remembered also for his wonderful sense of humor.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Grace, of Scarborough; son, Stephen, of Portland; sister, Judith, of Biddeford; brother, Timothy and wife Brenda of Woolwich; as well as nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his sisters-and-brothers-in-law, Mrs. Eleanor Mitchell and Clarence Mitchell of Scarborough, and Mrs. Joanne Bodman and Walter Bodman of South Portland. He was predeceased by his sisters, Agnes and Louise.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be offered for Stephen J. Curran at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2018, at Saint Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Rd., Scarborough. The Rite of Committal will follow at Brooklawn Cemetery, Portland. Arrangements are under the direction of the

Stevie. Peace be with you and your family. For you gave peace, empathy, and understanding to everyone. You never for got your roots. I shall never forget your mom's "love" for Sox player Jimmy Piersall. You were a true Christian. Your boyhood pal who played cards on your steps on Maple St.. Rest in the arm's of Jesus.

Grace and Family, You, We knew each other Knights and in other religious study meetings at St. Max. We never spoke about our careers in the Air Force, after 6 years active duty during Viet Nam war, I was in legal office at Pease AFB and then at Hanscom Field. Steve and I never spoke about our careers with the Air Force even though Steve was also at Portsmouth Navy Yard and perhaps many of our friends never came back. I liked that He always spoke his mind. Hope you and Family have wonderful memories to make this time a little easier! Dick Cervizzi
