Steven Delano Obituary

Steven Michael
Delano, 18
SCARBOROUGH -- Steven Michael Delano, 18, of Scarborough, died on May 9, 2010, following a motor vehicle accident that occurred while on the way to the Gorham High School Prom. He was born in Portland on July 23, 1991, the son of Cindy and Mark Delano. Steven was a senior in the Class of 2010 at Scarborough High School.
Steven has worked at the Hannaford Supermarket in Scarborough for over two years. He worked as a landscaper for Property Masters in Portland. He was a Call Company Member with Engine 7, Oak Hill, with the Scarborough Fire Department.
Steven was an 'Absolute Country Boy' at heart. Often seen with his arm dangling out the window. He was known for his mischievous smiles and being one of those 'Good Ole Boys Never Meaning No Harm' type of guys.
Steve's attire consisted of Cardhartt, Fox Racing apparel, work boots, hats and anything camo. One of Steven's greatest passions was hunting and fishing at the family camp in Byron, with Jeff and the rest of the gang. Steve could be considered a regular at Beechridge Motor Speedway.
Steve's other enjoyments were having fun with family and friends. His humorous nature of pulling pranks on everyone will be greatly missed.
He was predeceased by his paternal grandfather, Francis 'Tim' Delano in April 2010. Steven is survived by his parents, Cindy and Mark Delano of Scarborough; a brother, Scott Delano, U.S. Army serving in Afghanistan; maternal grandparents, Richard and Virginia Cobb of Scarborough, a paternal grandmother, Jean Delano of Scarborough; a paternal great-grandmother, Jeannette Sicard of Scarborough; several aunts, uncles; cousins; best friends, Kevin Grondin and Benny Hall; and also his 'adoptive' families, the Grondin's and the Wyman's.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 13, from 6-9 p.m. and on Friday, May 14, from 6-9 p.m., at the Conroy-Tully Crawford South Portland Chapel, 1024 Broadway, South Portland. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 15, at 11 a.m., at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 150 Black Point Rd., Scarborough. The Rev. Dwayne Hopkins, chaplain of the Scarborough Fire and Police Departments will officiate. Interment will be on Tuesday, May 18, at 3 p.m., at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland. At the committal service people will be invited to participate in a balloon release. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ctcrawford.com.
The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation and thanks to Justin Michaud RN. Thanks so much to all of Steven's special friends for all the love and support, could not of made it without you. We also would like to thank the community for all their support.

May 12, 2010

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Cindy, Mark and Scott,

Words can't express my condolenscences to you all. Stevie was the cream of the crop type of person. He was wholesome and that is very rare now a days, especially in teenagers. We will never ever ever forget his wonderful half witted smile! I only hope that some good can be returned from such a horrible event. I know he would want that. He is looking down on you all and will always be with you.

We love you guys and your always in my prayers~

To the Delano family,

You don't know me and I felt the need to send you a note. My deepest sympathy for the loss of your treasured son. He will live on in your memories and the people he saved for his unselfish donation of his organs. That is a true gift of life. My nephew died in a car accident almost 3 years ago and was an organ donor. It gave us great comfort to know that he saved several lives that day. My thoughts are with you at this time of need.
