Susan Mavodones Obituary

Susan Mavodones, 63
SOUTH PORTLAND - Susan Mavodones, 63, of South Portland, passed away March 16, 2017, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough after a long illness. She was surrounded by loving family. Born in Albuquerque, NM, on Dec. 20, 1953, Susan was the oldest child of Anthony and Isabelle Bellino. She grew up in South Portland, graduating from South Portland High School.
A phenomenally strong woman who loved fiercely and laughed contagiously, her quick sense of humor and smarts were only exceeded by her beauty inside and out. She was full of life, overflowing with love for her huge family and everyone she met, and had a profound influence on many. She was fondly known as "MamaDukes" to a younger generation of family and friends.
Her life's passion was being a mother to four, Nana to seven grandchildren, and a best friend and devoted wife of 37 years to her husband Michael. She loved movies and great music and the soundtrack of her life included R&B, Motown, Rock and Roll, Blues, everything really, except for Lionel Ritchie. Seeing blues legends Muddy Waters, Johnny Winter, Honeyboy Edwards, and Stevie Ray Vaughan were some of her fondest experiences.
She was an adventurous cook, always trying new techniques and recipes, and if you knew her, she fed you. Big Italian and Greek dinners on Sundays and holidays were her specialty, and she loved dessert for breakfast.
Sue loved flowers and gardening. Her many pets adored her.
Her family wishes to thank her doctors and nurses at InterMed, Maine Medical Center Heart Failure Clinic and especially the nurses and staff at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
In accordance with Susan's wishes, there will be no wake, funeral or services. Her happiest moments were camping with her children and later, her grandchildren, so a gathering of family and friends will take place at the lake during Summer, her favorite season, when flowers are blooming in abundance.
She is greatly missed and for the first time ever without ability to offer a rebuttal: Mom, we love you more.
