Virginia Huppi Obituary

Virginia VanDerVoort Huppi, 83
WESTBROOK & Pleasant Hill, Calif. - Virginia Mae VanDerVoort Huppi, 83, died on Jan. 19, 2015.
She was born on July 7, 1931, in Portland, to Mary Elizabeth Wright and Rolland Curtis VanDerVoort. Her formative years were spent in Maine and Boston, Mass. Virginia graduated from Westbrook High School, Westbrook, in 1949, and Simmons College, Boston, Mass., in 1953, with a BS in Chemistry.
Virginia married Rodney Grant Huppi in 1952, in Westbrook. Until Rod, an exploration geologist, retired in 1987, Virginia and Rod toured the United States. After retirement Virginia and Rod toured the world. Virginia was Rod's life companion.
Virginia worked as an aid in a class for the blind/visually impaired. As a volunteer, she transcribed many text books and other books into braille for many years, and volunteered with the Lung Association, particularly in Pleasant Hill, Calif. Virginia loved to read and plan her travels. She was known for her detailed and entertaining travel reports. Virginia lived throughout California, Washington and Alaska. Most of her later years were spent in Pleasant Hill, Calif., until she needed to be near family in the midwest.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Rodney G Huppi, who died on April 22, 2013. Virginia is survived by her sister, Diana Maranzano; two sons, Greg Huppi and Glenn (and Caroline Maxwell) Huppi; two grandchildren Eric (and Maggie Geddes) Huppi, Tera (and George) Huppi-Preussel; and, to date, one great-grandchild Norah Huppi. Virginia will be missed by many friends, neighbors, and the extended Huppi family across the United States.

The old neighborhood here in Pleasant Hill is not the same without Rod and Ginny. They frequently came around with huge bouquets of roses that they had grown themselves. Lots of other memories; all around good people. We dearly miss them.
