Beverly Patterson Ovist, 92, formerly of Chester County, PA died peacefully on Thursday, October 7 at her residence in Annapolis, MD. Interment of cremains will be at Church Hill Cemetery, MD, arranged by Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam of Centreville, MD. Born in Wyalusing, PA on July 18, 1929, Beverly was the daughter of Margaret I. Haischer and James V. Patterson. Along with her brother, the late Philp A. Patterson, she was the cherished step-child of Earl F. Haischer. She was a graduate of the Corning Free Academy, Corning, NY, and held BS and MS degrees (History) from Kansas State University. Between 1955 and 1960 she taught American History and English at Thornton Township High School in Harvey, IL, and between 1977 and 1987 she was a valued office employee of York/Borg-Warner Heating and Air Conditioning in King of Prussia, PA. Following the death in 1988 of Elwin B. W. Ovist, her husband and best friend of 34 years, she was a volunteer at Paoli Memorial Hospital, Paoli, PA, President of the Eaton Village homeowner’s association at Hershey’s Mill, West Chester, PA, and a local election judge. In 2003, she moved to Baywoods of Annapolis where she was an active participant in committee work and adult learning. Her primary commitments in life were to her family and to the values of liberal education, freedom of thought, and the founding ideals of America. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret O. Woodside (Sam) and Krista O. Scott (Michael), her cousin Judith I. Hymes, her sister-in-law Carol B. Patterson, her niece Allison P. Cullen (Michael), and her nephews Gregory, Michael, and David Ackerman.
