Fay Stetzer Obituary
Fay Stetzer of Lake Wales, FL On May 28th, 2016, our dearest Fay Stetzer, a truly special lady, passed on from this world having lived fully 96 of her 97 years. With her winning smile, gentle voice, and the ever present twinkle in her sparkling blue eyes, Fay was a delight to be with for any occasion. Fay kept a positive attitude, along with her love of sports, cards, backgammon as well as many other games and competitions at all of which Fay excelled. Fay was captain of Field Hockey at Shipley School, Bryn Mawr, PA; tennis champion many times over at Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club, Spring Lake, NJ; croquet champion at Green Gables Croquet Club of Spring Lake, NJ, golf champion at Merion Golf Club, Ardmore, PA as well as at Mountain Lake, Lake Wales, FL in both golf and golf croquet. Fay combined her love of travel with playing sports. Born in New York City in 1919 as Ms. Elsbeth Fay McKeever, Fay grew up in Wayne, PA; summering at Spring Lake, NJ; and wintering in Delray Beach, FL. Fay traveled around the globe with her parents before marrying Mr. Oliver DePeyster Gildersleeve in 1942. Fay remarried in 1967 and had a loving relationship with Dr. John J. Stetzer, Jr. lasting until his death in 1990. Fay remained close with Dr. Stetzer’s family: Fay’s stepson Jay Stetzer, and wife, Mary Anne; stepdaughter Gray Brott; step grandchildren Alexandra Williams; Susanne Drescher and husband David; Job Bell and Wesley Bell, along with four step great grandchildren. Fay is survived by her only child, son Oliver D. Gildersleeve, Jr., and wife, Kirsten, along with grandchildren: Oliver D. Gildersleeve III and wife, Janeth: Kristine M. Gildersleeve; Christian N. Gildersleeve, along with six great grandchildren. Fay is also survived by her niece and nephews: William S. McKeever, Virginia Warner, David McKeever and Mark McKeever. Finally, Fay is survived by her sweet dog Gracie, treasured companion, who will remain with the family. Our beloved Fay will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Fay loved her families, and was a cherished friend to a great many people. Services were held at Water’s Edge of Lake Wales, Lake Wales, FL with a second Memorial Service to be held at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church on July 9th at 11 am.
