I met George and Mike at Shelter Cove Marina in 1972 where I was rebuilding my sailboat Marjatta and they kept their new sailboat Temeraire. We traded smart remarks and veiled insults and soon became friends and fellow Pirates, sailing the Long Island Sound making fun of all the motorboats on the water out to get "the big ones". We laughed a lot, enjoyed the wind and the waves. I came to think of George as a given, as if he had always been there and I really expected him to always be. Over the years life took us in different directions and we did not see much of each other, but he was always there to share a joke, talk about boats or whatever. I thought of him as my best friend and now that he has sailed into the sunset, I will miss him.

George, my friend, rest in peace. It was an honor to line up next to you on that great HHS football team. A couple of us wanted to attend a Military Academy, but you were the only one that made it to the Air Force Academy. You were often thought of and will always be remembered. Hand salute.
