Mark William Kinney

Mark William Kinney a well-respected electronics engineer, was born August 7, 1959 in Washington, D.C. He grew up in Malvern, Pennsylvania and graduated from West Chester East High School in 1977. His high school years were highlighted by his love of math, science, solving puzzles and his impressive speed and enchantment with Rubik's cubes. An outstanding member of the high school marching band, the highly memorable trombone player improvised a credenza in a Mozart concerto which delighted both audience and music teachers alike. His precocious musical talent led him to the West Chester University Music Department where he received music lessons from faculty while still in high school. Mark then attended Catholic University to study engineering. Living in Catonsville, Maryland, he lovingly restored a vintage farmhouse, outfitting the basement workshop with all manner of contemporary and antique tools to help in the rebuilding project. A chess, bridge and golf enthusiast, he was well-known for his impressive acumen in math and science. Family and friends note that as big as his gifts and capabilities were, his sense of humility, grace and kindness were bigger. He spent his career with the Westinghouse Corporation, later Northrop-Grumman, after the company's acquisition. He started as an electrical engineer, quickly rising to become one of the company's youngest managers in the Electronic Systems Division. Mark spent the last four years of his career in Europe with his beloved wife, Joan and son Alec. Kinney's most recent assignment was in London, England for Northrop. He died there of natural causes on June 24, 2013. He is survived by Joan and Alec, his mother, one brother and two sisters. A memorial service is planned for Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 9:30 a.m. at the Central Baptist Church, 106 West Lancaster Avenue, Wayne, PA 19087.
