Mary Price

Mary "Meme" Price of Waverly Heights, Gladwyne, PA & Nantucket, MA., passed away on July 31st, just shy of her 99th birthday. She was born in Hempstead, Long Island in 1929 and grew up in West Hartford, CT. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Dr. Henry Locher Price, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Sudie Price, son-in-law, Bob Campbell, her daughter, Kate Jensen, son-in-law, Bruce Jensen, four grandchildren, Meghan McNabb, Shannon Pietila, Jack Pietila, Phoebe Pietila and 2 great-grandchildren. Meme graduated from Smith College in 1946, where she majored in Zoology. She aspired to achieve a medical degree, but given the times and the lack of her father's support, became a medical researcher. During her career, she worked in hematology research at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, MA and at the University of Pennsylvania. Meme was an active tennis player, skated at the Philadelphia Skating Club & Humane Society, and skied many slopes Europe and the U.S. She was also a highly regarded United States Figure Skating Association judge. She and Hal trained many huskies, winning several obedience awards. Many will remember her fondly as "the woman with the husky", who was out in all kinds of weather, undeterred by rain or snow. Among her diverse hobbies, she was an avid gardener, Member of Great Books, Bach Festival Attendee over many years, and learned how to make award winning Nantucket baskets. She heartily enjoyed her gin & tonics, and the occasional glass of champagne. Her family would like to thank the teams at Waverly Heights & Waverly Care for their compassion and many kindnesses. We also express gratitude for the Main Line Healthcare hospice team. Services will be private, with a Celebration of Life to be announced.
