Robert W. Denious, 84, a Colorado native and long-time Philadelphia lawyer, died on Saturday, September 4, 2021 in Bryn Mawr, PA. Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, Bob came east to attend Amherst College where he met his future wife, Susan A. Brown, who was attending nearby Smith College. After graduation from Amherst and Yale Law School, he joined the law firm of Duane, Morris and Heckscher in Philadelphia, PA where he practiced trusts and estates law for 40 years. His clients were families, many of whom relied upon him as a problem solver, advisor and counselor beyond his technical skills. Many clients became lifelong friends. He embraced the Philadelphia legal tradition of service; among other things, he was a “Big Brother” to disadvantaged youth, a board member of the HMS School for Children with Cerebral Palsy and active in the United Way, and he served as a board member of the Homemaker Service of the Metropolitan (Philadelphia) Area, Inc., a non-profit organization providing home health care services for the disabled and elderly. He served on the Vestry at St. David’s Church in Radnor, PA, and The Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr, PA. Bob taught himself to play piano at a young age. Playing by ear, he supported himself in college working summers playing piano in an ersatz saloon – the Glory Hole Bar - in Central City, Colorado. He was synesthetic. He saw, for instance, the key of G-sharp as purple. Later, in keeping with his love of music, he served as a long-time board member of The Presser Foundation. His first love was his family and he is survived by his wife, Susan, his three boys, Rob, Dave and Peter, eight grandchildren, a great grandson and his brother, Bill, and sister, Joan (Turner). A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at The Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr. The service will also be livestreamed at www.theredeemer.org In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to The Church of the Redeemer, 230 Pennswood Road, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010. I well remember Bob's visits to the Orpheus Club when he came to hear his son, Rob, and hearing him occasionally play the piano. Always a warm and smiling presence.
