Dianne Ledel Obituary
Longtime Mammoth resident Dianne Ledel passed away at home with her husband Mark by her side in October 2020.
Dianne grew up in the small Upper Peninsula Michigan town of Ishpeming. After attending Ishpeming H.S. she then graduated from Michigan Technological University earning a B.S. in Microbiology. She spent a year serving an apprenticeship in Duluth MN in order to earn her certification to be a Med Tech.
A laboratory moved Dianne to Southern California for her first job. With the wonderful weather, beach volleyball and lots of bicycle riding followed, including the Tecate to Ensenada Ride. Being a skier, Dianne soon discovered Mammoth. For a time, she was a member of the Orange County Ski Club, she participated in the VCs, and was a host on the Mountain. Renting a condo for the winter in Mammoth she started taking shifts at the hospital in the early 90s. Soon after she moved to Mammoth full time, bringing with her a stray black lab, a friend had found, her beloved Tokie. She purchased a house, a 4wd truck and she was home!
A little time after that she met her future husband, Mark. Together they explored all the outdoor activities that Mammoth offered, including climbing, hiking, kayaking, backpacking and others. On Dianne and Marks first ever adventure together out climbing, on the way home, off the side of 395, they noticed a dirt bike rider tangled up in a barbed wire fence in obvious trouble. Dianne jumped into action immediately, they extricated him from the fence and took him to the Hospital to care for his injuries, then back to get his bike. In 2014 she fulfilled a longtime dream of ascending the cables route on Half Dome. Recently she and Mark completed a multi-year project of kayaking around all of Lake Tahoe.
Dianne retired from the laboratory at Mammoth Hospital in 2017 after almost thirty years. She loved her job running the Microbiology Dept. in the laboratory.
She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Margaret Skufca and her brother Fr. Ronald Skufca. She is survived by her husband Mark Ledel and her brother Roger Skufca and sister-in-law Patti Wheeler.
Dianne loved people, the outdoors, and all animals. She was a very caring, generous, and wonderful person; she was loved by many and will be missed by more!
