Steve Wells Obituary

"THE KING HAS LEFT THE BUILDING."
Steve passed away on October 27th from acute heart failure, surrounded by his family. Steve grew up in Manhattan Beach and attended Mira Costa High School where he surfed, swam, and played water polo. He was a nationally ranked badminton player.
Steve spent 36 years as a firefighter (captain) with the City of Santa Monica. At SMFD he was known as the King for his work ethic, his care for all people, his wit and smarts, and as one of his chiefs said, he should have been the chief. After he retired, he moved from Malibu to Mammoth.
Steve was an avid skier, skiing all over the U.S. and Europe. At age 19 he wanted to ski Mont Blanc. At the time, there was only one lift, so he hiked for four hours to get to the glacier.
Steve loved to travel, and a few years ago, he and his wife went to London to see the Rolling Stones at Hyde Park, Queen at the O2, the Beach Boys at Albert Hall, Ascot and Wimbleton. Steve loved music, especially the Rolling Stones. He followed all the acts in Mammoth and loved Sunday football.
Steve leaves behind his wife Cindy Erickson, his daughter Erin (Kevin), son Ryan (Ashley), and Angie (Scott), grandchildren Tommy, Kat, Kirra, Kaylin, Adelyn and Quinn, along with his sister Shirley and nephews Keith, Ash and Dash.
Steve would say to all of you who mourn him, "'Start me up' and keep on going." - a nod to his favorite Stones song. A service will be held at a later date.
