1990-2013 PERU, VERMONT United States Army 1LT Sean C. Putnam, 23, a resident of Beechwood Lane in Peru passed away October 17, 2013 from injuries sustained after being struck by a car while assisting a disabled motorist. Sean was born in Bayside, New York on July 19, 1990 the son of Jerry and Dora (Fong) Putnam. He received his early education at Our Blessed Sacrament in Bayside and attended Holy Cross in Bayside for his freshman year. Upon moving to Vermont Sean graduated from Burr & Burton Academy in Manchester and received his Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice from Norwich University. While at Norwich University, Sean was a founding member of the Norwich Field Artillery Battery and member of the Norwich Rangers. As a cadet Sean graduated from the U.S. Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia. Sean received his commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery. After graduating from Norwich Academy he attended the Basic Officer Leadership Course (BOLC) and the Joint Fires Observer Course at FT. Sill, Oklahoma. Upon completing the Basic Course he was assigned to the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division where he served as the Battalion Assistant Effects Coordinator and later as the Fire Support Officer for B Co 2-325 AIR. His awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal (Posthumously Awarded), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terror Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and Basic Parachutist Badge. Sean had a love for the outdoors. He loved hunting, skiing, fishing and camping. He enjoyed photography and target shooting and always wanted to be in the military. His passion was serving his country as a member of the B CO 2-325 Air, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division Artillery of the United States Army and he cherished times spent with his family and friends. Sean is survived by his parents Dora and Jerry Putnam of Peru, Vermont, his grandmother Nancy Spor of Pennsylvania and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services with military honors accorded for Sean will be held Saturday November 2, 2013 at 1pm at the Peru Congregational Church. Interment will be private. Visiting hours will be held Friday November 1, 2013 at Brewster & Shea Funeral Service from 4-7pm and Saturday morning from 10-12pm when the family will be in attendance.
