Leighton Simmons

1921 - 2017

Leighton Simmons, born Sept. 7, 1921, age 95, of Manchester, passed away at his residence with his loving family at his side on May 29. Leighton was born in Manchester, to the late Sylvester and Theresia Vandergriff Simmons. Leighton was also preceded in death by his loving wife Myrtle Simmons. Leighton was a self-employed contractor and was known for his perfection in the work that he did. He is survived by two sons; Richard L. Simmons and his wife Glenda of Manchester, D. Michael Simmons and his wife Martha of Tullahoma, five grandchildren; Megan Gail Simmons Bryan of Manchester, Marcus David Simmons of Manchester, Ryan Leighton Simmons, of Willard, Mo., Shannon Hope Simmons Charles of Nolensville, and Shawna Lynne Simmons Streeter of Franklin, seven great-grandchildren; William Tucker Bryan, Levi Simmons Bryan, Everett Decker Simmons, Braden Charles Streeter, Dylan Ryan Streeter, Carleigh Lynne Charles, and Leighton Mae Simmons and two brothers; Jennings Simmons of Huntsville, Ala. and Marvin Simmons of Mt. Juliet. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to: Honor Flight of Middle Tennessee, P.O. Box 1926, Tullahoma, TN 37388. Visitation was Thursday, June 1, 6 – 9 p.m. at the Central Funeral Home, 2812 Hillsboro Hwy. Graveside service was Friday, June 2 at 10 a.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
