Edith Lillian Baker passed away peacefully May 16, 2025, with her family at her side. She was born April 12, 1928, to Leonard and Elizabeth Smith of Cadillac. She was the third of fifteen children. She had two sisters and twelve brothers. As a child she loved to go to the movies and roller skate with her siblings. In 1947 she graduated from Cadillac High School. She worked for the Cadillac Chair Factory until 1952. She met Richard Baker at the Roller Rink in Cadillac in 1951 and they married in January of 1952. They were married for 61 years.
They moved to Wellston, Michigan, where they lived for 69 years. She was blessed with two children; five grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.
Edith worked for the US Postal Service as part time rural carrier for 16 years in Wellston. In 2021, she moved to Green Acres Assisted Living where she enjoyed the last four years of her life.
Edith love to read, listen to music, sing, play games, do puzzles, travel and square dance. Their travels took them to Cape Cod, Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and Texas. They spent 27 winters in Texas where they square danced sometimes several times a day.
Edith is survived by: her daughter, Susan (Michael) Granfors; son, David (Debbie) Baker; grandchildren, Steven (Amy) Granfors, Phillip (Jodi) Granfors, Pam Granfors ,Kellie (Josh) Breitner, and Jason (Beth) Baker; eleven great grandchildren; two brothers, Douglas (Colleen) Smith and Gary Smith; beloved sister-in-law, Beverly Natte; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Richard K. Baker; two sisters; ten brothers; and her parents.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. on July 12, 2025, at Faith Fellowship Church. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Interment will take place at Wellston Cemetery.
