Harry James Abramowski, age 95 of Manistee, Michigan died Sunday morning, September 25, 2022 at Green Acres Assisted Living Home.
He was born on March 11, 1927 in Pontiac, Michigan and was the son of the late Joseph and Jennie (Franckowiak) Abramowski. He was a graduate of Manistee High School with the Class of 1945. Harry entered the United States Army shortly after his high school graduation, and served at the end of World War II from June 19, 1945 until his release on January 26, 1947. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University in 1952. During his working career Harry had been employed at the Filer Fiber Company, Buick Motors Division, General Motors, Continental Motors Corporation, American Box Board Company and Packaging Corporation of America until his retirement. After his retirement, Harry formed his own business of H. J. Engineering that specialized in Fluid Bed Combustion Systems. He was a member of the Michigan Society of Professional Engineers, the Manistee Elks Lodge #250, the V.F.W. Walsh Post #4499, the American Legion Post #10 and the Divine Mercy Parish (Guardian Angels Catholic Church) all of Manistee. In his free time Harry enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and reading.
Harry is survived by his son and daughter in-law, Larry and Lynn Abramowski of Commerce Township, MI, four daughters and two son's in-law, Linda Bomar of Big Rapides, MI, Donna and John Green, Karen and Brad Solberg and Susan Adolphson all of Manistee, ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and his sister Rosemary Musculus of Manistee. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Jennie (Franckowiak) Abramowski, two sisters Leona Smejkal and Rita Myers and by his three brothers, Ray, Don and Joe Abramowski.
According to Harry's wishes, cremation has taken place and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Guardian Angels Catholic Church in Manistee on
Monday, October 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Basil Lek celebrant. Burial will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery also in Manistee, where graveside Military Honors will be given by the Members of the Manistee County United Veterans Council Ritual Squad. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday morning, one hour prior to Harry's funeral mass at 11:00 AM.
Memorials will be established in Harry's name for Munson Hospice or the Guardian Angels Historic Preservation Project. Envelopes will be available at the church on Monday morning.
