Marcia Schrock Obituary

Marcia Kay Schrock
Manistee, Michigan
07/30/1950 - 11/04/2025
Marcia Kay Schrock, age 75, of Manistee, Michigan, passed away peacefully at her home in Manistee on November 4, 2025 after a brief illness with cancer.
Marcia was born July 30, 1950 in DeKalb, Illinois, the daughter of the late Elvern and Hazel (French) Seitzinger. Marcia was a graduate of DeKalb High School. She earned her Bachelor of Education from Northern Illinois University and her Master's in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University. On September 2, 1972, Marcia married Richard Alan Schrock at the First Baptist Church in DeKalb, Illinois.
Marcia and Rick lived in Norway, Illinois, where they managed the Cloverleaf Girl Scout Camp for seven years while teaching. In 1982, they moved to Sandwich, Illinois, where they restored a Victorian home and lived for nearly 25 years before retiring to Manistee in 2006.
Marcia taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math and science at Serena, Illinois, for 26½ years, retiring in 2006. She remained close with her colleagues and followed her former students with pride as they grew into adulthood.
Marcia was a gifted cook, best known for her baking. Her orange rhubarb pie and coconut cream pie were favorites and the highlight of many gatherings. She was also an enthusiastic gardener although Rick claims she "gave the orders and he did the work." Her knowledge of woodland flowers was exceptional; she often used Latin names rather than common ones when discussing the garden in their backyard.
In retirement, Marcia and Rick enjoyed traveling widely. They spent several weeks each year in Charleston, South Carolina, and several winters in Key West, Florida. They often hosted family reunions at Big Cedar Resort near Branson, Missouri, and over their 19 years of retirement, they explored much of the United States and Canada together.
Marcia was a member of the United Methodist Church of Ludington. She helped start Manistee Blessings in a Backpack, a program providing weekend meals to food-insecure students.
Marcia was very close to her family. Despite being scattered across the country, her family gathered often, and she treasured every moment spent with siblings, nieces, nephews, and their children. She shared a particularly close bond with her sisters, who were by her side during her final days.
Those who survive include her husband of 53 years, Rick Schrock, as well as her sisters and their families: Marilyn (Harry) Hubbard of Littleton, Colorado & her daughter Kim (Nate) Cockle, and granddaughter Kate, Joanne (John) Motley of St. Louis, Missouri & her children Alex and Kara (Sam).
She is also is remembered by Rick's family as well: his brother Albert Roger (Jane) Schrock of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania and their children Alexis (Brandon) Fritz, and their daughters Dagny and Evangeline, Morgan (Andy) Twehues, and their daughters Emery and Penny, Jordan Schrock and her son JoJo; and Nolan Schrock, his sister Rebecca (Steve) Stewart of Cedar Key, Florida & their daughter Wendy (David) Fisher, and their children Morgan, Tori (and her daughter Avery) & McKenzie, and their son Shane (Jennifer) Steward and their children Joey, Natalie, Kyle, & Dylan who preceded Marcia in death.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made online to Manistee Blessings in a Backpack.
A Celebration of Marcia's Life will be held on August 1, 2026, at Marcia and Rick's home in Manistee for family and friends.
