R. Strouf Obituary
(Ruth) Audrey Strouf, a resident of Manistee since 1959, passed away peacefully at the Inn at Freedom Village in Holland of natural causes. She was 98 years old.
Audrey is survived by her daughters: Sue (Strouf) Richmond (and her husband Mike) of Portland, Oregon and Linda Strouf of Holland; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild: David Richmond (and his wife Annie Roberts) of Nairobi, Kenya; Emily Richmond Pollock (and her husband Andy and their son Jonah) of Belmont, Massachusetts; Leslie Richmond (and her husband David Benetah) of Toulouse, France; and Matt McFarland of Glendale, Arizona. She adored all of them. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Donald Strouf, and their daughter Yvonne Strouf (McFarland).
Audrey was born near Grand Rapids but grew up in Saginaw. She attended Central Michigan University, independently, to pursue a teaching career. She met Don there after his discharge from the Navy. Finding each other again while working in separate high schools, they married. They found teaching jobs in the same small Michigan towns, finally settling in Manistee where they both taught at Manistee High School. Audrey taught two generations of students English, journalism and Latin. She didn't retire until her grandchildren arrived so that she and Don would have the freedom to drive west to visit them.
She was a woman of deep faith. She was a dedicated parishioner at Manistee United Methodist Church and its choir until its disaffiliation. She then found community with the Third Reformed Church in Holland.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 22, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Third Reformed Church, 111 W. 13th St. Holland. A time of visitation and fellowship will follow the service.
Audrey supported Relay For Life (American Cancer Society) and volunteered for Project Read, causes one could contribute to in her memory. The family is being served by Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home. www.langelandsterenberg.com.
