Charles "Chuck" Snyder
Ashland - Charles "Chuck" Snyder, 73, of Ashland, passed away Tuesday evening June 8, 2021 at University Hospital in Cleveland.
He was born July 8, 1947 in Steubenville, Ohio and was the son of the late Charles and Margaret (Birch) Snyder. He was a graduate of Brilliant High School in Brilliant, Ohio
While a senior in high school, he joined the Navy Reserves. After high school, he went to electronics school in the Navy. Following his training he served aboard the USS Walter, DD466, and later the USS Waldron, DD699.
After his Navy career, Chuck worked for Bendix Field Engineering where he went to school for 3 months to learn how to repair and operate two special purpose computers. He went to Ascension Island in the south Atlantic to work at an Apollo tracking station. He worked on Apollo mission 8, the first lunar orbit, thru Apollo 11, the first lunar landing. After that, he came home and went into computer programming. He held various programming positions thru his career. He worked for Blue Cross in Wheeling, West Virginia, Lumberman/Prudential Insurance in Mansfield, Ohio, Western Reserve Group Insurance in Wooster, Ohio and retired from Nationwide Insurance in Columbus, Ohio. He worked part time at Home Depot in Ashland for two years.
Chuck was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Nationwide Genealogy Club, The Ohio Genealogical Society and the Ashland County Genealogical Society. He enjoyed hunting, and fishing in his early years. He also enjoyed working on family history, working in his yard and garden, working on his old cars and going to car shows.
On February 28, 1976 he was married to Margaret Jane Snyder who preceded him in death on February 22, 2019. He is survived by his sister, Pam (Tom) Dawson; a brother, Dennis (Debby) Snyder and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Margaret, and a son, Charles Richard Snyder Jr.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday June 19, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Koch officiating. Friends may visit with the family from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. at the church. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1021 Dauch Dr. Ashland, Ohio 44805 or to the Ashland County Cancer Association, 1011 E. main St. Suite A, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
