Dixie Miller Obituary

Dixie Miller

PICKERINGTON: Dixie Miller, age 74, of Pickerington and formerly of Morrow County, died Thursday evening, December 13, 2012, at the Mount Carmel East Hospital in Columbus.

On August 9, 1938, Dixie was born in Morrow County, Ohio, the daughter of the late Jay and Ruth Irene (Smith) Miller. She graduated from Johnsville High School in the Class of 1956.

Dixie began her career working as a secretary in the Johnsville school system. She next worked for Galion Iron Works. She then took a job with the U.S. Government, first working in Galion then at the Defense Supply Center in Columbus with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service. She was sent all over the U.S. with her job and even spent significant time working in Germany. She retired from there in 1999.

In her spare time, Dixie enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre. She also liked shopping and listening to music, her favorite artist being Johnny Mathis. She would always find time to cheer on the Ohio State Buckeyes football and basketball teams. She was also a lover of cats and dogs.

Dixie will be dearly missed by her sisters: Maxine (Ray) Brown of Lexington and Virginia (Bob) Jourdan of Olathe, KS; a niece, Beth (Rick) Dillon of Lenexa, KS; two nephews: Ed (Vickie) Brown and Gary Brown, both of Lexington; numerous great nephews; and a special friend who was like the daughter she never had, Toni (Rick) Thompson of Columbus.

In addition to her parents, Dixie was preceded in death by her sister, Betty June McCreary.

Dixie's family will greet friends from 1 - 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services celebrating her life will be held there immediately following at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Ray Linn officiating. Burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery.

I to want to share my deepest sympathy to Maxine and Virginia. The Miller family were very special to us. It was fun growing up there.
Dixie will be missed greatly by the Whites

I join Dallas in offering our condolences to Maxine and Virginia (we called her Ginny) in the passing of Dixie. We had many great times while living on the Jay and Ruth Miller farm. Many fond memories of the popcorn, watermelon and especially the home made ice cream. The Saturday night euchre get togethers was something we looked forward to. Our family was always welcome in their home. Jay, Ruth, Betty, Maxine, Ginny and Dixie will never be forgotten by the White family. -Gene White

Dixie and I were neighbors and fellow classmates at Johnsville for 12 years. We lived on a farm (owned by her grandfather Zenith) and grew up together. I have many happy memories of time spent with her.

My deepest sympathies to her sisters Maxine & Virginia and all the Miller family. She will be missed.

I last visited Dixie in 1998 along with Anne (Cunningham) Burns in Columbus, Ohio. We had a great time talking of all our childhood memories.

I will miss her deeply.
