James Barrett Obituary

James "Jim" Patrick Barrett

LEXINGTON - James "Jim" Patrick Barrett, 75, of Lexington, passed away unexpectedly early Thursday morning, January 11, 2018. He was the son of the late James P. and Helen (Schiller) Barrett and was born on June 28, 1942, in Mansfield, Ohio.

Jim graduated with the Class of 1960 from St. Peter's Catholic High School. He married Magdalena "Madaline" Barrett in 1967 and they shared 49 wonderful years of devoted love together. He worked in the field of accounting/bookkeeping for Don Barr, MK Metal Products and CMP Corp. After his retirement, Jim began his career as a funeral assistant at Wappner Funeral Directors, where he was a valued employee, and considered as a member of our family. He was outgoing and enjoyed getting to know people. Jim was genuinely interested in the lives of his family and friends and enjoyed keeping in touch with all of them.

Jim was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church where he faithfully attended his entire life. He enjoyed exercise-biking, walking, and working out at the gym. He kept current with social media. Most of all, he was happiest in the company of his family and many friends.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Brigitte Barrett-Clarke and Raymon Clarke of Cincinnati; a granddaughter, Ashley Clarke; two sisters, Patricia Caraway of Wooster and Nancy (Joseph) Naylor of Macedonia; a brother-in-law, Robert Keppler of Mansfield; a sister-in-law, Lorraine (Gerald) Cooper of AL; and nieces, Tammy (Michael) Smith of Mansfield and Suzanne (Thomas) Brown of Greenville, OH. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Madaline, on April 1, 2016; sister, Winifred (Robert) Keller; two brothers-in-law, Walter Keppler and Fred Caraway; and niece, Sonya Keppler.

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2018, at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. A Mass of Christian Burial will be recited on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in St. Peter's Catholic Church, 104 W. First St., Mansfield. He will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery. Honoring Jim's commitment to others and his Catholic faith, memorial contributions may be made to the Monsignor Edward C. Dunn Foundation for Education, c/o St. Peter's Catholic Church.

I was saddened to hear of Jim's passing. Jim was a good friend of my late brother, David. Over the last year I became close to Jim through his kind words and assistance in helping me deal with the loss of my brother. Jim will be remembered as a friend and as a true gentleman who was always willing to lead a hand or share in a conversation. He will be sadly missed.

No matter how old we are the death of a parent always leaves us feeling somewhat orphaned. Your dad was a great guy, and the best of him will live on in you through your many memories. Sorry for your sorrow.
