James Berry Obituary

NORWALK, OH: James J. Berry, 74, of Norwalk, Ohio, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 in Gaymont Nursing Center. He was born December 5, 1935 in Norwalk, Ohio to the late Clarence J. and Elizabeth L. (Roth) Berry and was a lifelong area resident.
Jim was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, was a 1954 graduate of St. Paul High School where he played several sports, and was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus, Council #626, Norwalk, Ohio. He was a member of Norwalk Elks and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Jim was the former co-owner of Berry's Restaurant in Norwalk, Ohio and especially enjoyed the daily contact with the many families who came to the family restaurant. He enjoyed cooking and a good meal. Jim also enjoyed watching his grandchildren's sporting events, was a former little league baseball coach for his children, and family vacations. He also enjoyed golf, yard work, and regular trips to Lake Tahoe, Nevada and was an avid Cleveland sports fan.
Jim is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Ken Bleile of Norwalk, Ohio and by his sons and daughter-in-law, Mike and Mary Berry of Mansfield, Ohio, Todd Berry of Avon Lake, Ohio and Mark Berry of Nashu, New Hampshire; and six grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Shirley Berry of Norwalk, Ohio.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Lois A. Berry in 2010; by his sister, Gweldolyn Plue and by his granddaughter, Kristen Bleile in 1985.
Friends may call on Sunday, August 1, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Walker Funeral Home, 98 West Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Prayer services will be held on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 East Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio. Rev. Frank Kehres will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Paul High School Athletic Department.
