Jared Baer Obituary

MOUNT GILEAD: Jared Scott Baer, age 20, of Mount Gilead, died unexpectedly on Friday, November 5, 2010, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident after his girlfriend reacted quickly to a wreckless driver who was left of the center line.

On May 15, 1990, Jared was born in Marion, Ohio, the son of William "Dan" and Sheryl (Brady) Baer. He was raised in Mount Gilead, and graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 2008.

Shortly after graduating, Jared enlisted in the U. S. Army, and after several months of tests and waiting he was disappointed to learn he was unable to serve due to a heart murmur.

The most favorite day of every year for Jared was opening day of duck season, "the kid wouldn't sleep" he would be so excited. He was an avid hunter, who took every opportunity he could to hunt no matter the season.

Inheriting a love for fishing from his "fishing buddy," his Grandpa Brady, Jared always looked forward to casting a line. They often enjoyed going to Candlewood Lake to fish.

Very adventuresome, Jared would try nearly any outdoor activity "with anyone he could con into going with him," such as the special kayaking trip he took with his cousin, Jesse.

For the last few years, Jared had worked in construction. He was a life member of the AmVets Post 87 of Mount Gilead, and was formerly "a cub scout for umpteen years."

For nearly the past year, Jared has enjoyed the companionship of his girlfriend, Leah Knutsen of Marion, and her son, Keaton, whom he was buddies with.

Jared was becoming a caring and outgoing young man, whom his family was very proud of.

He will be dearly missed by his parents, Dan and Sherry Baer of Mount Gilead; his sister, Amy Baer; maternal grandparents, Carl and Shirley Brady of Mount Gilead; paternal grandfather, Arnold Baer of Mount Gilead; paternal grandmother, Barbara Shaw of Walnut Creek; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

The Baer family will greet friends from 4 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services honoring his life will be held there on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m., with his uncle, Pastor Rob Ratcliff officiating. Burial will follow in Bryn Zion Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ducks Unlimited, and they may be sent to the funeral home. For those wishing to express their condolences to Jared's family, you may do so online by visiting www.snyderfuneralhomes.com.

Uncle Danny-Aunt Sherry- Cousin Amy- What a week it has been since we found out. I still have very vivid memories of us when we were younger. I still can picture us driving little jeeps down the driveway and playing in the front room. I miss you all tremendously and my heart cries out to you at this harsh time. It's hard to think about it as he is 3 years younger than me... Just know if you ever need anything, I am here for you. He will be dearly missed. We will be seeing you soon and I can't wait for you to meet my little boy. He is as ornery as they come... and carries the Baer genes well. Love you all so much!

I'm so sorry for this loss. I went to Tri Rivers with Jared. We spent most of our Sr. year there together with a few others. One thing I will never be able to forget, is the way he was alway sooooo happy, no matter what. Any problem just seemed to roll off him. There are alot of great memories that i cant forget. again im sorry... I know everyone will think of jared often.

Although I haven't seen Jared for years, he had left imprints in my memories. He was maybe 8 years old last I saw him, but I remember thinking that he was such a great boy that I hoped my son would be very similar to him. Very handsome with his bright eyes, extremely thoughtful for a boy of his age and had a STRONG passion for his outdoorsy adventures. I remember seeing him on the floor talkin, playin, smilin with his baby sister, so gentle, caring and protective. That image is what flashes into my head when I think of Jared. He had a lot of heart. My sympathy goes out to his family and friends.
