Lonnie Flynn Obituary

Lonnie E. Flynn

BELLVILLE: "If you bungle raising your children, I don't think whatever else you do matters very much." Lonnie Flynn knew that bringing her children up right was one of the greatest contributions she could make not only for herself, but also for them. She dedicated most of her life caring for her five kids, and when she was no longer able to care for herself....each of them stepped up to the plate caring for their mother. Her legacy of devotion to her family had come full circle.

Lonnie E. Flynn, age 94, of Bellville passed away Sunday morning, October 2, 2011in Country Meadow Care Center.

She was born February 16, 1917 in Ritner, Kentucky the daughter of James and Janie (Worley) Tucker.

On August 26, 1936 she married Herbert Flynn who preceded her in death in 2000. The couple moved to Richland County in 1943.

Lonnie worked around twelve years for the former Stevens Manufacturing. She was also Herbert's help mate, tending to the family potato farm. Most of her time and talents, however, were dedicated to raising her five children.

Lonnie and Herbert were very active members of the First Baptist Church of Bellville. She was the oldest and last charter member.

Lonnie was a talented quilter and made many blankets for her family and friends. She made each of her children quilted feather pillows from her old down mattresses. She also enjoyed gardening, together she and Herbert put out a mammoth crop, her favorite being sweet potatoes. She also enjoyed reading.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law Cecil & Patricia Flynn, Tommy & Rebecca Flynn all of Bellville, and D. Daryl & Barbara Flynn of Butler; two daughters and sons-in-law Jewelene & Bill Smith of Bellville and Fay & Darryl Browning of Delaware; 14 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 28 step great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three grandchildren Troy, Brian and Ranae Dunlap; a son-in-law Harold Dunlap; four brothers Arthur, Harvey, John W. and Roy Tucker; and three sisters Cordelia Jones, Lottie Martin, and Hattie M. Flynn.

Friends may call Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from 4-7 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where the funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11am. Pastor Bill Henderson will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park near Lexington.

I dont know, nor have I ever met Lonnie, but I read her obituary and the 1st paragraph brought a tear to my eye. What a great, great lady. Your family has my sympathy as I am sure she will be missed.

I've met Lonnie ocasionally, but what stands out about her to me is her principle stated appropiately in her eulogy. Oh, and she was such a possitive person ready with a smile.

I feel so bad about your loss, but I know she is at peace now and happy to be in heaven. It is so hard to see a loved one ill for quite a long time. You all took such good care of her, which made her days happy here on earth. I am sorry that I can't be there for the funeral but I am in Florida with Jill and her family.
