Marjorie Slayton Obituary

Marjorie J. Slayton

CORNING: Marjorie J. Slayton, 82, passed away Friday morning, December 2, 2011 at her home. She was born June 24, 1929 in Crestline, Ohio to Steven and Blanch (Hoffman) Keller. Marjorie graduated from Crestline High School and worked at General Electric, Westbrook Country Club and the Park Avenue East Laundromat. Although she battled cancer for a majority of her life, she raised her eight children with a strong work ethic and good heart. Marjorie was an independent woman, never one to hold anything back, and she openly shared her hard earned wisdom and insight with her family. She enjoyed doing puzzles with her great-granddaughter, Dakotha who was currently residing with her. Marjorie was a country music lover, especially fond of George Jones and Conway Twitty. Bingo and garage sales were a favorite pastime for her. She will be greatly missed by the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she loved and adored.

She is survived by six children, Deborah (James) Botjer, Steve W. Slayton (Joyce Williams), John Slayton (Lana Centers), Timothy A. Slayton, Sr. (Robin Byrd), Kathy (Jeff) Clay, Tom (Margie) Slayton and Sue (Tim) Horner; grandchildren, Tammy, Malissha, Stanley, Jenny, Stevie, Danny, Valerie, T.J., Jeffrey, Shanna, Thomas and Arthur; fifteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Slayton, Sr.; first husband, Monroe Booth; son, Steve Booth; daughters, Karen Smith and Monna Au; sisters, Betty, Shirley and Lil; and great-grandchild, Adajawn Clay.

Friends and family may visit from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor John Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline.
