Thomas Harrod Obituary
MANSFIELD: Tom Harrod lived a life of serving all of those around him. His monumental physical strength was only surpassed by his extraordinary and unconditional love for all of those that he came in contact with. He did this through action and without question, as man of truly selfless nature.
Thomas J. Harrod passed away Monday evening, April 25, 2016 in OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital surrounded by his family. He was 63.
He was born November 9, 1952 in Mansfield to parents Allen E. and Helen Mae (Pinka) Harrod. After he graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1970, he went on to graduate from Shelby Vocational school. Tom retired after 30 years as a tool and die maker from General Motors in 2009 and most recently retired from the maintenance department at the Mansfield Public Library in 2015.
A true outdoorsman, he lived a life finding joy and adventure in everything around him. His time outside was spent as a caretaker of nature - chopping wood, camping, doing simple tasks, gardening, and fishing. His adventures found him traveling and experiencing the outdoors in Michigan, hang gliding in Colorado, and what would have been many new and undiscovered wildernesses. Above all, his adventurous spirit, openness, and "never give up" attitude continued to his last days, finding new joys in unexpected places and experiences.
He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Sharon Harrod; son Neal Harrod and daughter Nicole Harrod; mother and father in law, brother in law, sister in law, nieces and nephews, and numerous other extended family and friends.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Bruce A. Harrod and, sister Pamela Sue Keppler.
A gathering for family and friends will take place on Thursday, April 28, 2016 from 5 - 6:30 p.m. at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will follow at 6:30 p.m., with Pastor Tony Pingitore officiating. Tom's family is encouraging and asking friends to prepare stories, share memories, and bring items as reminder to all in attendance of a caring man who lived a full and adventurous life.

I am so sorry to learn of Tom's untimely passing.
His father and my mother were brother and sister and I have fond memories of Tom as a child when we would go to Aunt Helen and Uncle Allen's house for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. (Aunt Helen was one of my favorite aunts.)
I also stayed with them a few days in the summers as Susie I were close. We used to love playing in their cabin in the woods... so am not surprised to read of his continued love of the outdoors and nature. Tom was always smiling and a very sweet cousin...and I know he grew into a wonderful man, father and husband.
My sympathy, prayers and thoughts are with your family. May God comfort you in your great loss.
