Virgil R. Walker

MANSFIELD: Virgil R. Walker, 80, of Mansfield passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 in Grant Medical Center following injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

The son of Chester and Goldie (Mooree) Walker, Virgil was born March 22, 1935 in Mansfield and was graduated from Bellville High School in 1954. Virgil worked for Wickes Lumber and also was a truck driver for Englefield Oil.

He looked forward to spending time at his cottage on Lake Erie. Tenderhearted, he'd feed birds and squirrels, but mostly enjoyed fishing. Easygoing, Virgil never met a stranger.

He is survived by his sons, Tony Walker of Michigan and Todd Walker of Ohio; granddaughter, Brianna Durbin; siblings, Wilbur Walker of California, Dwight Walker of Mansfield, and Lloyd (Patricia) Walker of Mansfield; son-in-law, Brian Ling; sisters-in-law, Vera Walker of Bellville, Alice Walker of Ontario; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family; and special friends, Steve and Marie and Gregg andChristine.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Lee Ann Ling; son, Terry Walker; granddaughters, Brittany and Adrienne Ling; brothers, Homer and Donald Walker; sister Janice Walker.

His family will receive friends Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 12 pm - 2 pm in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where funeral services will begin at 2 pm. Celebrant Jerry Wilson will officiate and burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to Richland County Humane Society may be made through the funeral home.

Your father was a great man. He delivered my fuel oil for years. I always enjoyed talking to him. He was a very nice sweet kind man. May he catch the big fish in the sky. I haven't seen him in years, but I thought about him often. You can be very proud to have had him for a dad.

Virgil will be missed. He was great company, fun to be around, and loved coming to the kids sporting events. With our own parents passed, it was nice for the kids to have an "honorary grandfather".
