Cynthia Hibberd Obituary
Cynthia Hibberd, 91
1933 - 2025
Salem, Mass. - Cynthia M. Hibberd was born on Veteran's Day, November 11, 1933 in rural Ohio. She is survived by her brother GordonHibberd of Albany, N.Y. and her late brother Gary Hibberd's three children, Wendy Good and Robert Hibberd of Ohio and Dean Hibberd of Nashville, Arkansas.
After completing studies at Ohio Wesleyan University, Cynthia moved to New York City where she served as a regional coordinator for the Girl Scouts of America, traveling far and wide. After a successful career with the Scouts, she decided to challenge herself, returning to school and then joining the research and consulting firm, Arthur D. Little as a research librarian. This meant a move to the Boston area and ultimately, a move to Salem, Massachusetts. She'd made her home in Salem for nearly fifty years by the time she passed away on October 5th of this year.
No one had more friends and certainly no more devoted friends. Cynthia was keenly intelligent, clear thinking and witty with a patented chuckle that was both infectious and irresistible. When you spoke to her, you had her complete attention. She looked you in the eye, bantered easily and constantly---although modestly–-reminded you that you were talking to a very special person, indeed. This wisdom was only surpassed by the kindness that she showed to everyone she met, unfailingly and freely.
During her time in Salem, she joined the local adult ed community, THE EXPLORERS and became active with St. Andrew's church in Marblehead along with a dozen book groups. Her contributions were beyond naming. She was a bulwark of the church, always stepping up and volunteering when there was a need.
In short, Cynthia was beloved and anyone lucky enough to know her treasured her friendship, her humor and her devotion. To know her was to love her and she will be missed by all who had the good fortune to call her a friend.
