Brian Oliva Obituary

Brian Paul Oliva Aged 63, passed away at his home in San Anselmo on January 9, 2013. He was born on November 22, 1949 in San Rafael, CA to Dr. George Verdelli Oliva and Dorothy Austin Oliva. Brian attended St. Rita's School in Fairfax and Marin Catholic High School in Greenbrae. Brian went on to graduate from St. Mary's College in Moraga with a BA degree in Biology. Brian was a Veteran who proudly served his country with the US Army on active duty and in the Army reserves. Following his college graduation, Brian served as an Environmental Health Specialist in Los Angeles and Alameda counties. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Ross Valley Sanitary District in 1992 and enthusiastically served the district for 15 years until 2007. His special interests and hobbies included sailing, playing rugby, golf, and 49ers football. Brian was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers David Austin Oliva and George Verdelli Oliva III. He is survived by brother Stephen (Susan Ellis) Oliva and his sisters Barbara (Norbert) Oliva Tracy, Mary (Joe) Oliva Mariani, Catherine (Gary) Oliva Westover, and Drs. Nancy (Mike Lyon) Oliva, and Ann (Tom) Oliva Watters, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Brian's family especially appreciates the tireless and loving efforts of Brian's nephews Richard Oliva and Kevin Tracy and sibling Barbara Tracy who spent many hours supporting Brian in his desire to live in his beloved hometown of San Anselmo. The family invites friends to a Memorial Mass in Brian's honor to be held on Saturday January 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., St. Anselm's Catholic Church, 97 Shady Lane, Ross, CA. Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary's College, P.O. Box 4300, Moraga, CA 94556 "In honor of Brian Oliva," Class of 1971 or to RotaCare Bay Area, Inc.-San Rafael Clinic, P.O. Box 18430, San Jose, CA 95158-8430.

I met Brian at St Marys College. I will miss seeing Brian while riding my bike past his house on the bike route to Fairfax. He was always in good spirits wehen we spoke. I was sad to learn of his passing.
