Dorothy Pollack Obituary

Dorothy M. Pollack (Waterman)
Age: 90 years-
Dorothy Pollack passed away peacefully in Petaluma on April 3, 2004. Beloved mother of Daniel Waterman of Ukiah, CA and Marc Waterman and his wife, Suzanne of San Rafael, CA. Loving grandmother of Ben Waterman of San Diego, CA and David Waterman of San Rafael, CA. Dear sister of Fran Barrish and her husband, Berny, of Petaluma, Mort Stuart and his wife, Mary, of Chevy Chase, MD. Survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She will also be greatly missed by her two life-long friends, Estelle Levinthal of Manhattan Beach, CA and Sylvia Oreskes of Henderson, NV.
Dorothy was a life long member and national officer of Hadassah, Brandeis, National Council of Jewish Women, and the Federation of Temple Sisterhoods. She was strongly committed to these organizations and worked thousands of volunteer hours to make the world a better place to live for all of us.
Dorothy was born in Chicago, May 7, 1913. She moved to Minneapolis with her husband, Maurice Waterman, where she gave birth to her sons Daniel and Marc. The family moved back to Chicago where she was particularly active as an educator at Temple Beth Israel, as well as becoming President of the Temple Beth Israel Sisterhood. Dorothy was also a professional book reviewer.
After Maurice passed away in 1968, Dorothy met and married Edwin Pollack several years later. Upon retirement, they moved from Chicago to Clearwater, Florida. With Edwin's passing ten years ago, Dorothy moved to San Rafael, CA to be near her two sons and her sister.
Dorothy, the kin-keeper of her family felt strongly and taught this to her sons that family and friendships are the cornerstones of what makes the world work peacefully and productively. We will sadly miss her.
Dorothy was a lady who loved life and will be fondly remembered by all who met her.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 9, 2004. Family assisted by PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY & CREMATORY, Magnolia Ave. & Keokuk St., Petaluma, CA. Her family requests donations to Temple Beth Israel, for the Rabbi Lorge Sanctuary Fund, 3601 W. Dempster St., Skokie, IL 60076. in Dorothy's memory.
