FRANK CONGER FAWCETT

Frank Conger Fawcett The life of Frank Conger Fawcett ended quietly in the early morning hours of February 17th, 2012 at his home in Mill Valley. Conger, as his friends and family called him, was born on April 16, 1934 in Newton, Massachusetts, the third son of Barbara Conger Fawcett and William Fawcett. His life was filled with accomplishments and contributions. After graduating Harvard (Cum Laude) in 1956, he spent three years in the U S Navy, returning home to enter Harvard Law in 1959. Upon receiving his JD in 1962, he ventured across the country to take a position with the San Francisco law firm of Graham and James., later becoming a partner and eventually, managing partner. In his early years as a lawyer he accepted a pro bono case for an indigent bank robber named Westover. This case led him to the Supreme Court of the United States and became part of the Miranda Decision of 1966. He was also part of the team to go to Alaska to represent native Alaskans in the Native Claims Act in the 1970s. He served as Chief Counsel and Board Member to the Chalone Wine Group, taking that company public in 1984. One of Conger's great loves was the Theater, therefore, a supporter and board member of The Marin Theatre Company of Mill Valley. He was an avid sailor from early childhood on the East Coast through the years here on San Francisco Bay. With a superb vocabulary, he braved the New York Times crossword puzzles on a daily basis and could solve most. He was a Marin County Master Gardener, a proud member of the Marin Men's Chorus, as a second tenor, and a Pelican Player, showing his talent for singing, acting, and a unique sense of humor. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean McQuown Fawcett, two children, Peter Fawcett and Kayte Cunningham, as well as two stepchildren, Peter Goch and Lynn Kellogg, and five grand children. The family will honor him at a Memorial Celebration of Conger' life on April 6 at 2 PM at The Outdoor Art Club, Mill Valley. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Marin Theatre Company on Miller Ave. Mill Valley.
