Grace Sickler Obituary

Grace Sickler Grace Ann Sickler passed away on March 17, 2020 in Novato, California. She was born in Waterbury, Connecticut to Louis Greatorex and Alice Judson Greatorex on August 3, 1939. While in Waterbury, Grace enjoyed time with her 10 brothers and sisters and was an active member of Leavenworth High School. She met her future husband, Sherold Ed Sickler, while working at his parents' hardware store. A few years after the two were married, they left Connecticut and relocated to California to raise their young family. They started their new life in San Francisco. Later they moved to Marin County, living in Mill Valley, San Anselmo and finally Novato. When her boys were young, Grace worked part-time at Sears. She later became a valued employee at Macy's in San Rafael and Terra Linda, where she retired after 30 plus years. In retirement Grace took amazing care of her husband Ed until he passed from Alzheimers. She belonged to exercise, Bridge, and Canasta groups, played Bingo, enjoyed relaxing at the community pool with neighbors and spending time with family and friends. She had a quick wit, easy laugh, tireless energy, and would be the first to volunteer to help in any situation. Grace is predeceased by her husband Ed, her parents and her 10 brothers and sisters. She was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother to her sons, Kent Sickler (Bill Lundin), Jeff Sickler (Jill); grandchildren Craig, Trevor and Jenny Sickler; as well as many friends. She will be missed greatly by all that knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association. Alz.org/get-inloved-now/donate. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

My heartfelt sympathy to Grace's family, Kent & Bill, Jeff & Jill, and grandchildren. Grace was my cousin. Her mother Alice and my mother, Hazel, were sisters in a family of 6 siblings - 5 girls / 1 boy. Aunt Alice's family lived in Mill Plain, CT, while I live in Wolcott, CT (a very rural area in the mid 1950's). It was always a treat to stay with Aunt Alice's family, even though there were 11 children (not all home at this time) there was always room for one more. Grace was the oldest girl, of the 3 living at home then, so she had a lot of responsibility. Grace had a way of making chores fun...fooling around, laughing, as long as we got things done. And, Grace had a great sense of humor, was kind, warm and welcoming to me. And someone I could talk to. I idolized Grace! She was beautiful both inside and out. She visited me in Vermont, but I never got to visit her in CA. We exchanged Christmas cards and occasionally spoke on the phone. I can still hear her voice. Her laugh was like no other. Grace was special. If you are ever in the area of Isle La Motte, VT, please let me know. I would love to meet you. Again, my deepest sympathy.

Kent and Bill: Our deepest sympathy. Grace was so cute and fun and a joy in our neighborhood. We will miss her smile and hanging out with her at the pool. We are very sorry for your loss. Linda and Jeff (Pacheco Valle neighbors)

I married her nephew, Ed Gagain (son of Grace's eldest sister), and we lived in Waterbury for a summer - where I got to know Aunt Grace. She was kind, and always had a smile for everyone.

I'm sorry I lost track of her for so many years. She was a wonderful person.

I remember working with Grace at Macys a few years ago. She always had a great smile and was sweet to always stop and chat about her life and yours. May her family and friends hold those dear moments in their hearts forever.
