Hans Richter

1940 - 2017

Hans Richter Passed away peacefully April 28 with his wife Yuri and sister Rita by his side. Hans was born in Cologne, Germany on January, 1, 1940. In 1959 he came to New York where he worked for the famous Luchow's. From there he moved to the Plaza Hotel as the youngest Assistant Banquet Manager and then to the Delmonico as the youngest Banquet Manager. In 1969 he transferred to San Francisco as the Catering Director of the Mark Hopkins Hotel. Hans then joined Trader Vic's in 1971 to open the first Trader Vic's in a foreign country at the Bayerischer Hof in Munich Germany. After the great success in Munich, he became the Project Manager for Trader Vic's in Tokyo. It was there that he met his future wife Yuri. After returning to the United States he opened numerous Trader Vic's all over the world and became President/CEO of Trader Vic's in 1993. Upon retiring he enjoyed having lunch with friends, going to Palm Springs in the winter, and visiting friends and family all over the world. Hans was a joyful, giving man who loved to sing and laugh. He will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by Yuri his wife of 36 years, younger brothers Paul and Karl-Heinz and sister Rita.
